Recent propositions passed by California voters \u2013 Prop 36 or the \u201cThree Strikes Reform Act\u201d and Prop 47 or \u201cthe Safe Neighborhoods and Schools Act\u201d \u2013 reduce the sentence for certain crimes. Inmates in prison who are serving sentences of 25 years to life may be eligible for a sentencing reduction if the offense for which their sentence was imposed is not a serious or violent felony. People convicted of drug possession and certain nonviolent property crimes may have the right to have their convictions re-classified from a felony to misdemeanor.<\/p>\n
